Reporting Discrimination and Other Violence

TPI is encouraging all LGBTQ+ persons to report violence so we can include your stories and experiences to better advocate for meaningful change. If you would like to jump straight to the data tool (a Google form that takes a few minutes to fill out), then click the “Report violence to TPI” button below. If you do not have violence to report but want to sign our petition calling for systemic violence to be addressed, then click the “Sign the petition” button below.

Reporting Violence

What can be reported?

We are looking for all types of violence, including discrimination, harassment, failure to employ equally (hiring a trans person but assigning restricted or specific duties out of public sight is discrimination), and certainly outright threats and assaults.

Providing housing that is not in accord with your affirmed gender is violence.

Forcing you to wear a name tag that is not in accord with your affirmed gender or outs you to others is violence.

If you feel you have been dismissed or discriminated against due to your gender, it is probably some type of violence, and we would encourage you to report it.

Who can report?

We are looking for data sepecifically from trans and gender diverse persons, but anyone who is trans or queer — or who has experienced violence related to a perception that you might be trans or queer — is encouraged to submit their report. It can sometimes be difficult to tell what will help build cases against those abusing their power and privilege to discriminate and foster or engage in violence.

What happens to my report?

Your report will be automatically placed in a private spreadsheet for TPI to access. If you tell us you would like us to contact you, we will do so to follow up. Non- identifying general (aggragate) data may be displayed. Reports may be used anonymously in advocacy letters and other actions or reports pushing for change.

TPI has also teamed with two attorneys to challenge the constitutionality of Texas Family Code 45.103, which we believe is unconstitutional due to its disproportionate impact trans persons needing name changes. For more information, see 103.tpride.org.
